Mainz 4 – Arminia 0: The Blues humbled at the OPEL Arena

Mainz ease to a comfortable 4-0 win at the OPEL Arena. Both sides came from defeats in their previous league games. Mainz were looking to get back their winning ways, following a previous defeat to Union Berlin. Arminia were beaten 1-0 in the previous match against Borussia Dortmund. As things stand, Mainz are in 9th place on the table and has 37 points while Arminia sit in 17th with 25 points after 27 matches.
The 05ers started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with an early goal from Jonathan Michael Burkardt in the 1st minute and seeing the first half out 1-0.
Mainz continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Moussa Niakhate finding the net at the 65 minute mark. Mainz looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a 2nd effort from Jonathan Michael Burkardt at the 75 minute mark to establish a 3-0. Mainz then scored again and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Marcus Ingvartsen, at 79 minutes to make it 4-0.
For Mainz, Leandro Martins, Marcus Ingvartsen, Anderson Lucoqui, Paul Nebel and Kevin Stoger, came on for Lee Jae Sung, Jonathan Michael Burkardt, Aaron Martin, Jean-Paul Boetius and Dominik Kohr. Arminia replaced Manuel Prietl, Fabian Klos and Florian Kruger with Sebastian Vasiliadis, Bryan Lasme and Masaya Okugawa.
The referee booked Dominik Kohr for Mainz.
Mainz will next play B Mönchengladbach away, with Arminia facing Stuttgart at home.
