Hertha 1 – Union Berlin 4: The Iron Ones deliver resounding show at the Olympiastadion

Union Berlin beats Hertha 4-1 on Saturday at the Olympiastadion. Hertha were looking forward to meeting again, following a previous defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. Union Berlin were coming off the back of a 1-0 win against FC Köln. As the table looks today, Hertha and Union Berlin currently occupy 17th and 7th spots in the league, with 26 points and 44 points respectively after 29 matches.

The Iron Ones started strongly in the first half, with Timo Baumgartl opening the rout at the 31 minute mark, seeing out the first half 0-1.

The Old Lady started the second half with an intensified spirit, with an early calamitous own second effort from Timo Baumgartl in the 49th minute. However, each side looked hungry to win and Union Berlin then found the back of the net, 53 minutes in thanks to Grischa Promel, taking the score to 2-1. Union Berlin looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Sheraldo Becker in the 74th minute to establish a 3-1. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Sven Michel just before the final whistle with a final score of 4-1.

For Hertha, Ishak Belfodil, Maximilian Mittelstadt, Marton Dardai, Suat Serdar and Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, came on for Stevan Jovetic, Vladimir Darida, Julian Eitschberger, Myziane Maolida and Santiago Ascacibar. Union Berlin replaced Genki Haraguchi, Dominique Heintz, Niko Giesselmann, Taiwo Awoniyi and Sheraldo Becker for Andras Schafer, Julian Ryerson, Bastian Oczipka, Andreas Voglsammer and Sven Michel.

The referee booked Marcel Laurenz Lotka, Stevan Jovetic, Marc Kempf and Lucas Tousart for Hertha.

Hertha will next play Augsburg away, with Union Berlin facing Eintracht Frankfurt at home.
