Hertha 2-2 Bayer: Leverkusen hit back to claim a point at the Olympiastadion

On Saturday, Hertha and Bayer played out a 2-2 draw at the Olympiastadion. Hertha were looking to pick up points, following a 2-0 victory against Augsburg while Bayer had lost their previous match against SC Freiburg. Hertha and Bayer currently occupy 14th and 16th spots in the table, with 5 points and 4 points respectively after 6 matches.

Following a goalless first half, Bayer certainly were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, with an early goal from Kerem Demirbay in the 49th minute. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Suat Serdar managing to equalize, 55 minutes in 1-1. The momentum was again with Hertha, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Marco Richter, 74 minutes in to establish a 2-1 result. In the end though, their lead was short-lived, as Patrik Schick equalised for The Company’s Eleven in the 79th minute. The final result, Hertha 2, Bayer 2.

Substitutions for Hertha included Jean-Paul Boetius, Marco Richter, Davie Selke, Marton Dardai and Vladimir Darida for Suat Serdar, Chidera Ejuke, Wilfried Kanga, Dodi Lukebakio and Lucas Tousart, respectively. Bayer brought on Charles Aranguiz, Nadiem Amiri, Sardar Azmoun, Robert Andrich and Odilon Kossounou, to replace Exequiel Palacios, Adam Hlozek, Kerem Demirbay, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jeremie Frimpong.

There were bookings for Suat Serdar, Ivan Sunjic and Davie Selke from Hertha, and Charles Aranguiz, for Bayer.

Hertha will play their next fixture away against Mainz, while Bayer will face Werder Bremen at home.
