Cologne 0-1 Union Berlin: Early Timo Hubers goals gives The Iron Ones away win

Union Berlin eased past FC Köln in a 1-0 victory on Sunday at the Rhein Energie Stadion. Cologne were looking to pick up points, following a 4-2 victory against Wolfsburg. Union Berlin were struggling for form following a draw in their last match. Cologne and Union Berlin are 7th, (9 points) and 1st, (14 points), spots respectively, after 6 matches.

It was an impressive opening from Union Berlin, with an early calamitous own goal from Timo Hubers in the 3rd minute. The score at half time remained 1-0. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the match ended 1-0.

Substitutions for Cologne included Steffen Tigges, Kingsley Schindler, Dejan Ljubicic, Jan Thielmann and Sargis Adamyan for Florian Dietz, Benno Erik Schmitz, Kristian Pedersen, Florian Kainz and Linton Maina, respectively. Union Berlin brought on Milos Pantovic, Kevin Behrens, Sven Michel and Paul Seguin for Janik Haberer, Jordan Siebatcheu, Sheraldo Becker and Andras Schafer.

The referee booked five players. Luca Kilian, Kristian Pedersen and Kingsley Schindler from Cologne, who saw yellow cards and Luca Kilian (2 yellow cards), sent off with a red, as well as for Union Berlin Robin Knoche received yellows.

Cologne will play their next fixture away against Bochum, while Union Berlin will face Wolfsburg at home.
