Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1-0 win over Mainz on Saturday, was hard fought at the Commerzbank Arena. Both Frankfurt and Mainz arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Frankfurt were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the B Mönchengladbach away (3-2), the other to Bayer Leverkusen at home (5-2). Mainz, on the other hand, had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 4-0 victory against Hertha. At the moment, Frankfurt and Mainz sit 5th, (27 points) and 8th, (24 points), spots respectively, after 17 matches.

Frankfurt found the net first, with Jesper Lindstrom giving The Eagles the lead, 35 minutes in to see out the first half 1-0. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the game ended 1-0.

For Frankfurt, Ajdin Hrustic, Ragnar Ache, Goncalo Paciencia and Stefan Ilsanker, came on for Sebastian Rode, Jesper Lindstrom, Rafael Borre and Daichi Kamada. Mainz brought on Jean-Paul Boetius, Kevin Stoger, Niklas Tauer, Marcus Ingvartsen and Daniel Brosinski, to replace Leandro Martins, Alexander Hack, Lee Jae Sung, Stefan Bell and Silvan Widmer.

The referee booked Aaron Martin for Mainz.

Frankfurt will next play Borussia Dortmund at home, with Mainz facing RB Leipzig away.
