Frankfurt 0 – Arminia 2: The Blues cruise past The Eagles at home

Eintracht Frankfurt fell to a home defeat at the hands of Arminia Bielefeld at the Commerzbank Arena on Friday. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Frankfurt wanted to improve their league standing following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Augsburg in their previous game. Arminia had managed to pick up a single point in their encounter with Greuther Fürth. After today’s result, Frankfurt and Arminia currently occupy 8th and 14th spots in the league, with 28 points and 21 points respectively after 20 matches.

The Blues dominated the first half, thanks to an early goal from Patrick Wimmer in the 5th minute. Arminia then scored again and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Alessandro Schopf, 27 minutes in. The score at half time was 0-2. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the game ended 2-0.

For Frankfurt, Makoto Hasebe, Goncalo Paciencia, Ragnar Ache and Ajdin Hrustic, came on for Martin Hinteregger, Sebastian Rode, Timothy Chandler and Daichi Kamada. Arminia brought on Fabian Klos, Fabian Kunze, Gonzalo Castro, Robin Hack and Jacob Laursen, to replace Janni Serra, Sebastian Vasiliadis, Patrick Wimmer, Masaya Okugawa and Florian Kruger.

There were bookings for Sebastian Rode, Makoto Hasebe, Goncalo Paciencia and Filip Kostic from Frankfurt. For Arminia, Andres Andrade and Joakim Nilsson saw yellow.

Frankfurt will next play Stuttgart away, with Arminia facing B Mönchengladbach at home.
