Dortmund 1 – Leipzig 4: Home side humiliated by travelling the Signal Iduna Park

RB Leipzig strolled past Borussia Dortmund with a 4-1 win on Saturday at the Signal Iduna Park. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Dortmund wanted to improve their league standing after a 1-1 draw against FC Köln whilst Leipzig are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. As things stand, Dortmund are in 2nd place, with 57 points from 28 matches, while Leipzig sit in 4th, with 48 points from 28.

Leipzig started strongly in the first half, with Konrad Laimer opening the rout, at 21 minutes. However they weren’t finished yet and Konrad Laimer made it 2-0, 30 minutes in, which saw the first half end 0-2.

The Red Bulls continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Christopher Nkunku finding the net at the 57 minute mark. However, Die Borussen weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Donyell Malen at the 84 minute mark. In the end though, Leipzig secured the points emphatically, with a goal from Dani Olmo just before the final whistle and seeing the game end 4-1.

For Dortmund, Mahmoud Dahoud, Donyell Malen, Giovanni Reyna and Julian Brandt, came on for Axel Witsel, Marius Wolf, Thorgan Hazard and Marco Reus. Leipzig brought on Lukas Klostermann, Emil Forsberg, Dominik Szoboszlai, Marcel Halstenberg and Hugo Novoa, to replace Nordi Mukiele, Kevin Kampl, Andre Silva, Mohamed Simakan and Dani Olmo.

There were bookings for Thorgan Hazard, Emre Can and Donyell Malen from Dortmund. For Leipzig, Kevin Kampl saw yellow.

Dortmund will next travel to Stuttgart, while Leipzig will face Hoffenheim at home.
