Bochum 0-2 Werder Bremen: Fullkrug brace lifts the The River Islanders to victory

Werder Bremen strolled past Bochum with a 2-0 win on Saturday at Vonovia Ruhrstadion. Both Bochum and Werder arrived at the match with previous defeats in the league. Bochum were hoping to get something from this game after losing their last match 1-0 to SC Freiburg, while Werder had lost their previous match against Eintracht Frankfurt. Bochum are now in 18th place, with 0 points from 5 matches, while Werder sit in 8th, with 8 points from 5.

Following a goalless first half, Werder continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Niclas Fullkrug gave them the lead, at 86 minutes. The River Islanders then scored once more and increased their advantage thanks to a penalty second effort from Niclas Fullkrug just before the final whistle to give a final score of 2-0.

Substitutions for Bochum included Philipp Hofmann, Patrick Osterhage, Christopher Antwi-Adjej and Ivan Ordets for Gerrit Holtmann, Simon Zoller, Philipp Forster and Jordi Osei-Tutu, respectively. Werder brought on Oliver Burke, Jens Stage, Niklas Stark, Nicolai Rapp and Ilia Gruev, to replace Marvin Ducksch, Romano Schmid, Amos Pieper, Niklas Schmidt and Christian Gross.

There were bookings for Simon Zoller and Cristian Gamboa from Bochum. For Werder, Mitchell Weiser and Amos Pieper saw yellow.

Bochum will next play Schalke away, with Werder facing Augsburg at home.
