Bayer 2 – Freiburg 1: The Company’s Eleven triumph at home against Breisgau Brazilians

Bayer Leverkusen secures a 2-1 victory against SC Freiburg at the Bay Arena on Saturday. Bayer were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two games in the competition. The most recent was against the Hoffenheim away (4-2), the other to Eintracht Frankfurt at home (2-0) while Freiburg lost 4-1 in the last match they played against Union Berlin. This left, Bayer are in 3rd place on the table and has 61 points while Freiburg sit in 6th with 55 points after 34 matches.
After an un-eventful first half, Bayer certainly were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, thanks to a goal from Lucas Alario, 54 minutes in. However, their lead was short-lived, as an equalizer from Janik Haberer in the 88th minute, brought Freiburg level. The Company’s Eleven in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with an effort from Exequiel Palacios and seeing the game end 2-1.
For Bayer, Charles Aranguiz, Robert Andrich, Mitchel Bakker, Sardar Azmoun and Piero Hincapie, came on for Julian Baumgartlinger, Lucas Alario, Daley Sinkgraven, Patrik Schick and Paulinho. Freiburg brought on Kiliann Sildillia, Nils Petersen, Janik Haberer, Ermedin Demirovic and Jonathan Schmid, to replace Lukas Kubler, Woo-yeong Jeong, Maximilian Eggestein, Lucas Holer and Roland Sallai.
There were bookings for Moussa Diaby and Julian Baumgartlinger from Bayer, and Maximilian Eggestein, Nico Schlotterbeck and Kiliann Sildillia, for Freiburg.
