Bayer 2 – Hertha 1: The Old Lady succumb to The Company’s Eleven at the Bay Arena

Bayer Leverkusen eased past Hertha in a 2-1 victory on Saturday at the Bay Arena. Both Bayer and Hertha arrived on the back of wins. Bayer were looking to pick up points, following a 2-0 victory against Wolfsburg. Hertha, on the other hand, were looking to extend their winning run after a 3-0 victory against Hoffenheim. As it stands, Bayer are in 3rd place on the table and has 51 points while Hertha sit in 17th with 26 points after 28 matches.
It was an impressive opening from Bayer, thanks to a goal from Lucas Alario in the 34th minute. The Company’s Eleven looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Karim Bellarabi, 40 minutes in to establish a 2-0. However, The Old Lady just before half-time hit back though following a Vladimir Darida goal, finalising the first half 2-1. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the game ended 2-1.
For Bayer, Sardar Azmoun, Exequiel Palacios, Patrik Schick and Piero Hincapie, came on for Karim Bellarabi, Charles Aranguiz, Lucas Alario and Mitchel Bakker. Hertha brought on Marcel Laurenz Lotka, Linus Jasper Gechter, Marco Richter, Marten Winkler and Davie Selke, to replace Alexander Schwolow, Suat Serdar, Niklas Stark, Maximilian Mittelstadt and Ishak Belfodil.
The referee booked Kevin-Prince Boateng for Hertha.
Bayer will next travel to Bochum, while Hertha will face Union Berlin at home.
