Gladbach 3 – Leipzig 1: The Colts take all 3 points at the Borussia Park

RB Leipzig fell to an away defeat at the hands of B Mönchengladbach at the Borussia Park on Monday. Gladbach arrived with the intention of increasing their league score after a 3-3 draw against SC Freiburg. Leipzig lost 2-1 in the last match they played against Union Berlin. As the table looks today, Gladbach are in 10th place, with 41 points from 32 matches, while Leipzig sit in 5th, with 54 points from 32.

The Colts found the net first, with a goal from Breel Embolo at the 17 minute mark. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Christopher Nkunku producing an equaliser, at 36 minutes, bringing Leipzig level. Gladbach in turn, then responded just before half-time increasing their lead with an effort from Jonas Hofmann, to take a 2-1 lead into half time.

Gladbach continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Jonas Hofmann finding the net again at the 77 minute mark, leaving the final score at 3-1.

For Gladbach, Marvin Friedrich, Alassane Plea, Christoph Kramer and Joe Scally, came on for Lars Stindl, Breel Embolo, Kouadio Kone and Luca Netz. Leipzig brought on Marcel Halstenberg, Lukas Klostermann, Yussuf Poulsen, Emil Forsberg and Dominik Szoboszlai, to replace Josko Gvardiol, Mohamed Simakan, Andre Silva, Nordi Mukiele and Konrad Laimer.

The referee booked seven players. Lars Stindl, Kouadio Kone, Florian Neuhaus and Jonas Hofmann from Gladbach, who saw yellow cards and Nico Elvedi, sent off with a red, as well as for Leipzig Josko Gvardiol and Mohamed Simakan also seeing yellows.

Gladbach will next travel to Eintracht Frankfurt, while Leipzig will face Augsburg at home.
