Gladbach 0-1 Mainz: The Colts suffer home defeat to The 05ers

Mainz’s 1-0 win over B Mönchengladbach on Sunday, was hard fought at the Borussia Park. Gladbach were aiming to improve their league standing after a 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich, while Mainz were beaten 3-0 in their previous match against Bayer Leverkusen. Gladbach are now in 7th place, with 8 points from 5 matches, while Mainz sit in 10th, with 7 points from 5.

After an uneventful first half, whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Mainz who started the second half strongly, when Aaron Martin found the net, 55 minutes in, seing the match finish 1-0.

Substitutions for Gladbach included Marvin Friedrich, Lars Stindl, Nathan N`Goumou Minpole and Julian Weigl for Nico Elvedi, Alassane Plea, Joe Scally and Kouadio Kone, respectively. Mainz brought on Anton Stach, Angelo Fulgini, Delano Burgzorg, Edimilson Fernandes and Marlon Mustapha, to replace Lee Jae Sung, Leandro Martins, Jonathan Michael Burkardt, Maxim Leitsch and Karim Onisiwo.

The referee booked six players. Kouadio Kone from Gladbach, who saw yellow cards and Ko Itakura, sent off with a red, as well as for Mainz Leandro Martins, Lee Jae Sung, Dominik Kohr and Robin Zentner also seeing yellows.

Next up, Gladbach are away to SC Freiburg, whilst Mainz will travel to face Hoffenheim.
