Augsburg 2 – Mainz 1: The 05ers unable to avoid away defeat

Augsburg strolled past Mainz with a 2-1 win on Wednesday at the WWK Arena. Augsburg were looking to pick up points, following a 3-0 victory against Wolfsburg. Mainz secured a point against B Mönchengladbach in their previous match. After today’s result, Augsburg are in 13th place on the table and has 32 points while Mainz sit in 10th with 38 points after 26 matches.
Augsburg started strongly in the first half, with a goal from Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, 11 minutes in, seeing out the first half 1-0.
The 05ers staged a comeback in the second half, thanks to a goal from Silvan Widmer at the 54 minute mark. In the end though, Fuggerstädter, 56 minutes in took the victory via a Ruben Vargas goal. When the final wisthle blew, the result was 2-1 to Augsburg.
For Augsburg, Ruben Vargas, Carlos Gruezo, Ricardo Pepi, Raphael Framberger and Jan Moravek, came on for Mads Pedersen, Arne Maier, Florian Niederlechner, Daniel Caligiuri and Andre Hahn. Mainz brought on Anton Stach, Kevin Stoger, Marcus Ingvartsen and Leandro Martins, to replace Lee Jae Sung, Dominik Kohr, Jonathan Michael Burkardt and Alexander Hack.
