Augsburg 1 – Cologne 4: Fuggerstädter left reeling as The Billy Goats take points

FC Köln on a 4-1 win against Augsburg on Saturday at the WWK Arena. Both Augsburg and Cologne arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Augsburg were looking to pick up points, following a 2-0 victory against Bochum. Cologne were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Arminia Bielefeld and B Mönchengladbach. After today’s result, Augsburg are in 14th place, with 35 points from 32 matches, while Cologne sit in 6th, with 52 points from 32.

Cologne started the game well, with Jan Thielmann opening the rout in the 12th minute. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Mark Uth in the 15th minute. The score at half time was 0-2.

The Billy Goats continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Anthony Modeste, 63 minutes in. However, Fuggerstädter weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Florian Niederlechner in the 73rd minute. In the end though, Cologne secured the points emphatically, with a 2nd effort from Anthony Modeste at the 77 minute mark and seeing the game end 4-1.

For Augsburg, Felix Ohis Uduokhai, Florian Niederlechner, Arne Maier, Raphael Framberger and Alfred Finnbogason, came on for Iago, Andre Hahn, Carlos Gruezo, Robert Gumny and Daniel Caligiuri. Cologne brought on Louis Schaub, Tim Lemperle, Julian Chabot, Mathias Olesen and Kingsley Schindler, to replace Florian Kainz, Jan Thielmann, Luca Kilian, Mark Uth and Anthony Modeste.

There were bookings for Carlos Gruezo and Reece Oxford from Augsburg, and Jan Thielmann, Florian Kainz, Timo Hubers and Luca Kilian, for Cologne.

Augsburg will next play RB Leipzig away, with Cologne facing Wolfsburg at home.
