Vélez 4-0 Estudiantes: Bad day for visitors at Jose Amalfitani

Vélez Sarsfield cruises against Estudiantes La Plata on a home win at Jose Amalfitani on Monday. Vélez were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning last match, while Estudiantes were beaten 3-1 in their previous match against Defensa and Justicia. Vélez and Estudiantes sit 26th, (25 points) and 22nd, (30 points), spots respectively, after 26 matches.

Vélez started strongly in the first half, when Lucas Janson opened the rout in the 37th minute, finishing the first half 1-0.

Vélez continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, with a goal from Abiel Osorio, 72 minutes in. The momentum was again with Vélez, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Francisco Ortega, 78 minutes in to establish a 3-0 result. Vélez then netted once more and increased their advantage thanks to a 2nd effort from Abiel Osorio just before the final whistle to give a final score of 4-0.

Substitutions for Vélez included Julian Fernandez, Jose Florentin, Abiel Osorio, Maximo Perrone and Gianluca Prestianni for Luca Orellano, Lucas Pratto, Santiago Castro, Lucas Janson and Mateo Seoane, respectively. Estudiantes brought on Pablo Piatti, Benjamin Rollheiser, Leonardo Heredia and Mauro Mendez, to replace Manuel Castro, Franco Zapiola, Mauro Boselli and Jorge Morel.

There were bookings for Santiago Castro from Vélez, and Jorge Morel and Fabian Noguera, for Estudiantes.

Vélez will play away against Argentinos Juniors, while Estudiantes will face Godoy Cruz at home.
