Vélez 1-0 Banfield: Visitors to Jose Amalfitani leave with nothing

Vélez Sarsfield eased past Banfield in a 1-0 victory on Wednesday at Jose Amalfitani. Vélez were looking forward to playing again after losing 1-0 to Boca in their last match. Banfield were unable to beat Godoy Cruz in a 1-1 draw. Vélez are now in 27th place, with 19 points from 23 matches, while Banfield sit in 21st, with 26 points from 23.

Following a goalless first half, Vélez applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Lucas Janson, at 79 minutes. The match ended 1-0 to Vélez.

Substitutions for Vélez included Walter Bou, Lucas Janson, Julian Fernandez, Gianluca Prestianni and Matias De los Santos for Santiago Castro, Franco Diaz, Emanuel Insua, Luca Orellano and Abiel Osorio, respectively. Banfield brought on Mauricio Cuero, Juan Ignacio Rodriguez, Andres Chavez and Alan Di Pippa, to replace Jose Alvarez, Juan Manuel Cruz, Ramiro Enrique and Julian Palacios.

The referee booked Emanuel Insua, Santiago Castro and Damian Fernandez from Vélez. Banfield had the worst of it though, with Emanuel Coronel, Gregorio Tanco and Luciano Abecasis seeing yellow, and Lautaro Rios then sent off with a red.

Vélez will next travel to San Lorenzo, while Banfield will face Gimnasia La Plata at home.
