Unión 0-1 Newell’s: Union slide to fourth defeat in a row

Newell’s Old Boys banked all three points against the Unión Santa Fe in a 1-0 victory on Saturday, at Estadio 15 de Abril. Both teams arrived at the match with previous defeats in the league. Unión were looking to get back to winning ways after losing 2-1 to Racing Club in their last match. Newell’s were beaten 1-0 in their previous match against Independiente. Unión are now in 20th place on the table and have 26 points while Newell’s sit in 10th with 32 points after 22 matches.

Newell’s started the first half well, with a goal from Juan Manuel Garcia on the 15 minute mark to see out the first half 1-0. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-0.

Substitutions for Unión included Facundo Aguero, Matias Gallegos Panozzo, Daniel Eduardo Juarez, Kevin Zenon and Mariano Peralta Bauer for Bryan Castrillon, Francisco Gerometta, Mauro Luna, Lucas Angel Esquivel and Junior Marabel, respectively. Newell’s brought on Francisco Agustin Gonzalez, Marcelo Cesar Esponda, Juan Fernando Garro, Genaro Rossi and Facundo Mansilla, to replace Ramiro Sordo, Pablo Perez, Cristian Ferreira, Juan Manuel Garcia and Armando Mendez.

There were bookings for Franco Calderon and Juan Carlos Portillo from Unión. For Newell’s, Juan Manuel Garcia and Martin Luciano saw yellow.

Unión will next travel to Rosario Central, while Newell’s will face Arsenal de Sarandi at home.
