River 1-2 Banfield: Banfield win again as Palacios nets a winner

Banfield defeated River 2-1 on Thursday at Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti. River were looking to get back to winning ways after losing 1-0 to Boca in their previous fixture. Banfield were coming off the back of a 2-1 win against Colón. River are now in 8th place, with 29 points from 19 matches, while Banfield sit in 15th, with 25 points from 19.

Banfield started the match strongly, when Alejandro Cabrera gave them the lead, 26 minutes in, concluding the first half 1-0.

River took the initiative in the second half, with a goal from Miguel Angel Borja, 71 minutes in. Banfield in turn, then responded, 73 minutes in, grabbing the lead with an effort from Julian Palacios. The match ended with a 2-1 victory for the visitors.

Substitutions for River included Miguel Angel Borja, Matias Suárez, Tomas Pochettino and Ezequiel Barco for Lucas Beltran, Pablo Solari, Agustin Palavecino and Nicolás De La Cruz, respectively. Banfield replaced Nicolas Domingo, Jesus Datolo, Jose Alvarez, Mauricio Cuero and Dylan Gissi with Juan Manuel Cruz, Lautaro Rios, Julian Palacios, Aaron Quiros and Agustin Urzi.

There were bookings for Nicolás De La Cruz from River, and Alejandro Cabrera, Julian Palacios and Nicolas Domingo, for Banfield.

River will next play San Lorenzo away, with Banfield facing Lanús at home.
