Patronato 3-1 Independiente: Axel Rodriguez brace helps lift Patronato to victory

Patronato enjoyed a mesmerising home victory against Independiente at Estadio Presbitero Bartolome Grella on Monday. Patronato were hoping to get something from this game after losing their last match 3-1 to CA Sarmiento. Independiente were able to continue their winning streak after a 2-1 win against Estudiantes La Plata in their last match. After today’s result, both teams are on 7 points and sit in 13th and 14th places respectively after 5 matches.

Patronato started the match well, with an early goal from Axel Rodriguez in the 1st minute. Patronato looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Jonas Acevedo, 26 minutes in to establish a 2-0. Independiente in turn, then responded just before halftime increasing their lead with an effort from Lucas Romero, finishing the first half 2-1.

Patronato continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Axel Rodriguez found the net again, 57 minutes in. When the final wisthle blew, the result was 3-1 to Patronato.

Substitutions for Patronato included Franco Leys, Lucas Kruspzky, Sergio Ojeda, Carlos Quintana and Lautaro Geminiani for Sebastian Medina, Marcelo Estigarribia, Nicolas Eduardo Castro, Francisco Alvarez and Jonas Acevedo, repectively. Independiente replaced Rodrigo Marquez, Ivan Marcone and Gaston Togni with Geronimo Poblete, Lucas Rodriguez and Lucas Gonzalez.

The referee booked Sebastian Medina, Axel Rodriguez, Juan Guasone and Raul Alberto Lozano from Patronato and Jorge Valdez Chamorro went off with a red card, while Independiente’s Alex Vigo, Leandro Benegas, Juan Insaurralde and Rodrigo Marquez also received a yellow.

Patronato will next travel to Newell’s Old Boys, while Independiente will face CA Platense at home.
