Newell’s 2-0 Boca: Visitors leave empty handed

Newell’s Old Boys beated Boca 2-0 on Sunday at Estadio Marcelo Bielsa. Newell’s arrived at the match looking to pick up more points after losing their last match 2-0 to CA Tigre. Boca were coming from consecutive wins against CA Sarmiento and Aldosivi. Newell’s are now in 8th place, with 39 points from 26 matches, while Boca sit in 1st, with 48 points from 26.

Newell’s continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Willer Ditta found the net, at 80 minutes. The match ended with a 2-0 home victory.

Substitutions for Newell’s included Marcelo Cesar Esponda, Marcos Portillo, Ramiro Sordo, Marco Campagnaro and Genaro Rossi for Juan Fernando Garro, Pablo Perez, Francisco Agustin Gonzalez, Martin Luciano and Juan Manuel Garcia, respectively. Boca brought on Sebastian Villa, Marcelo Weigandt, Martin Payero, Oscar Romero and Luis Vazquez, to replace Carlos Zambrano, Cristian Medina, Alan Varela, Juan Ramirez and Guillermo Fernandez.

The referee booked Juan Sforza, Cristian Lema, Martin Luciano and Willer Ditta from Newell’s and Juan Sforza (2 yellow cards) went off with a red card, while Boca’s Carlos Zambrano and Dario Benedetto also received a yellow.

Newell’s will play their next fixture away against Barracas C., while Boca will face Independiente at home.
