Banfield fell to an away defeat at the hands of Independiente at Libertadores de America on Monday. Independiente were looking for a victory following a disappointing 2-2 draw with Barracas C. in their previous game. Banfield were able to continue their winning streak after a 1-0 win against Aldosivi in their last match. Independiente and Banfield currently occupy 13th and 22nd spots in the league, with 34 points and 29 points respectively after 26 matches.

After an uneventful first half, Independiente certainly were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, when Damian Batallini gave them the lead, 54 minutes in. They managed to close the match out with a clean sheet and a well-earned of 1-0 victory.

Substitutions for Independiente included Lucas Rodriguez, Tomas Agustin Pozzo and Alan Sonora for Juan Insaurralde, Damian Batallini and Juan Cazares, respectively. Banfield brought on Luciano Abecasis, Agustin Urzi, Alejandro Cabrera, Juan Manuel Cruz and Nicolas Bertolo for Jose Alvarez, Mauricio Cuero, Ramiro Enrique, and Julian Palacios.

The referee booked Leandro Fernandez from Independiente. Banfield had the worst of it though, with Luciano Abecasis seeing yellow, and Luciano Abecasis (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Independiente will next travel to Boca, while Banfield will face CA Sarmiento at home.
