Banfield 1-2 Lanús: The Garnet hold off Banfield for three points

Banfield fell to a home defeat at the hands of Lanús at Florencio Sola on Monday. Banfield were looking to continue their good run after winning their previous two games against River away and Colón at home, by 2-1 and 2-1 respectively. Lanús lost 1-0 in their against Boca. Banfield are currently 17th with 25 points from 20 matches, while Lanús sit in 26th, with 14 points from 20.

It was an impressive opening from Lanús, when Yonathan Cabral found the net just before half-time, finishing the first half 1-0.

Lanús continued to apply pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Franco Orozco found the net, at 85 minutes. In the end though, Banfield pull-back with a Andres Chavez goal just before the final whistle, seing the match finish 2-1.

Substitutions for Banfield included Nicolas Bertolo, Matias Gonzalez, Mauricio Cuero, Andres Chavez and Jose Alvarez for Juan Manuel Cruz, Agustin Urzi, Lautaro Rios, Emanuel Coronel and Julian Palacios, respectively. Lanús brought on Brian Aguilar, Facundo Perez, Franco Orozco, Jose Sand and Samuel Careaga, to replace Braian Nahuel Aguirre, Luciano Boggio, Franco Troyansky, Brian Blando and Lautaro Acosta.

The referee booked Juan Manuel Cruz, Aaron Quiros, Alejandro Maciel, Emanuel Coronel, Ramiro Enrique, Alejandro Cabrera and Andres Chavez from Banfield and Aaron Quiros (2 yellow cards) went off with a red card, while Lanús’ Braian Nahuel Aguirre, Lautaro Acosta, Franco Troyansky, Franco Orozco, Julian Aude, Tomas Belmonte and Facundo Perez also received a yellow.

Banfield will next travel to Defensa and Justicia, while Lanús will face San Lorenzo at home.
