Unión 1 – Coquimbo 3: Travelling fans rewarded with victory

Coquimbo Unido enjoyed an away victory against Unión at Santa Laura on Sunday. Both teams arrived at the match with previous defeats in the league. Unión were looking forward to playing again after losing their last match 2-0 to Antofagasta. Coquimbo had lost their previous match against Colo Colo. Unión are now in 10th place, with 37 points from 29 matches, while Coquimbo sit in 16th, with 23 points from 29.

Following a goalless first half, Unión certainly were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, thanks to a goal from Sebastian Jaime, at 52 minutes. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Cesar Huanca producing an equaliser in the 67th minute, bringing Coquimbo level. Coquimbo looked to have the match under control when they scored again to grab the advantage, thanks to a goal from Cristian Aravena, 76 minutes in to establish a 2-1. They then extended the lead with a goal from Luis Cabrera just before the full time to make it 3-1.

Substitutions for Unión included Leandro Garate, Manuel Fernandez, Rodrigo Pineiro, Gonzalo Espinoza and Jose Luis Aranda for Octavio Rivero, Thomas Galdames, Sebastian Jaime, Luis Antonio Pavez and Valentin Vidal, respectively. Coquimbo replaced Fabian Carmona, Ignacio Jeraldino, Nicolas Berardo, Ruben Farfan and Sebastian Galani for Cristopher Barrera, Cristian Aravena, Dilan Zuniga, Luis Cabrera and Ricardo Escobar.

The referee booked Luis Antonio Pavez, Gabriel Norambuena and Rodrigo Pineiro from Unión. Coquimbo had the worst of it though, with Sebastian Galani, Cristian Aravena and Guillermo Orellana seeing yellow, and Cristian Aravena then sent off with a red.

Unión will next play Unión La Calera away, with Coquimbo facing Curicó Unido at home.
