Tolouse 4-2 Montpellier: La Paillade come up short against Tolouse

Tolouse FC beated Montpellier 4-2 on Sunday at Stadium de Toulouse. Tolouse were looking forward to playing again after losing 2-1 to Lille in their last match. Montpellier were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-1 victory against RC Strasburg. Tolouse are now in 12th place on the table and have 11 points while Montpellier sit in 10th with 12 points after 9 matches.

La Paillade started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with a goal from Nicolas Cozza after only 7 minutes. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Stijn Spierings managing to equalize, 18 minutes in 1-1. Tolouse looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Zakaria Aboukhlal, at 24 minutes to establish a 2-1. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a goal from Fares Chaibi in the 31st minute, ending the first half 3-1.

Tolouse started the second half with an intensified spirit, with an early goal from Brecht Dejaegere in the 48th minute. In the end though, Montpellier hit back though following a Sepe Elye Wahi goal, 68 minutes in. When the final whistle blew, the result was 4-2 to Tolouse.

Substitutions for Tolouse included Kevin Keben Biakolo, Denis Genreau, Moussa Diarra and Ado Onaiwu for Brecht Dejaegere, Thijs Dallinga, Zakaria Aboukhlal and Fares Chaibi, respectively. Montpellier replaced Arnaud Souquet, Wahbi Khazri, Jordan Ferri, Joris Chotard and Arnaud Nordin for Falaye Sacko, Stephy Mavididi, Valere Germain, Leo Leroy and Axel Gueguin.

The referee booked Mikkel Desler, Issiaga Sylla and Denis Genreau from Tolouse and Mikkel Desler (2 yellow cards) went off with a red card, while Montpellier’s Jordan Ferri, Joris Chotard, Teji Savanier and Sepe Elye Wahi also received a yellow.

Tolouse will next travel to Lyon, while Montpellier will face AS Mónaco at home.
