Rennes 6 – Metz 1: The Rennais secure all 3 points at the Roazhon Park

Rennes eased past FC Metz in a 6-1 victory on Sunday at the Roazhon Park. Rennes were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches against Lyon away and Angers SCO at home, by 4-2 and 2-0 respectively. Metz had managed to pick up a single point in their encounter with RC Lens. As it stands, Rennes are in 2nd place on the table and has 52 points while Metz sit in 19th with 23 points after 29 matches.

Rennes didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, with Martin Terrier opening the rout at the 18 minute mark. The Rennais looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a second effort from Martin Terrier at the 27 minute mark to establish a 2-0. However they weren’t finished yet and Sehrou Guirassy made it 3-0 just before half-time, finalising the first half 3-0.

Rennes started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with Sehrou Guirassy finding the net again in the 54th minute. The momentum was now with The Rennais, who then scored again through a goal from Hamari Traore at the 58 minute mark to establish a 5-0. Rennes looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a hat trick effort from Sehrou Guirassy, 64 minutes in to establish a 6-0. In the end though, Metz secured the points emphatically, with a goal from Louis Mafouta just before the final whistle. The game ended 6-1.

For Rennes, Gaetan Laborde, Jonas Martin, Loum Tchaouna, Lesley Ugochukwu and Jeanuel Belocian, came on for Sehrou Guirassy, Lovro Majer, Martin Terrier, Flavien Tait and Nayef Aguerd. Metz brought on Pape Matar Sarr, Louis Mafouta, Farid Boulaya, Opa Nguette and Amadou Mbengue for Ibrahima Niane, William Mikelbrencis, Ibrahim Amadou, Pape Ndiaga Yade and Kevin N`Doram.

There were bookings for Baptiste Santamaria from Rennes, and Kiki and Fali Cande, for Metz.

Rennes will play their next fixture away against Nice, while Metz will face AS Mónaco at home.
