Marseille 1-1 Rennes: The Phocaeans unable to break dead-lock with The Rennais

Marseille were helde ach other to a 1-1 draw by Rennes on Sunday at the Orange Velodrome. Both Marseille and Rennes arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Marseille were looking to continue their good run after winning their previous two games in the league. The most recent was against the Lille at home (2-1), the other to Auxerre away (2-0). Rennes, meanwhile, were able to continue their winning streak after a 5-0 win against Auxerre in their last match. Marseille are 1st with 20 points from 8 matches, while Rennes sit in 8th, with 12 points from 8.

It was an impressive opening from Rennes, when Matteo Guendouzi gave them the lead on the 25 minute mark, ending the first half 1-0.

Marseille started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, when Matteo Guendouzi found the net, at 52 minutes, seing the match finish 1-1.

Substitutions for Marseille included Dimitri Payet, Cengiz Under, Pape Alassane Gueye and Luis Suarez for Matteo Guendouzi, Amine Harit, Jordan Veretout and Alexis Sanchez, respectively. Rennes brought on Lovro Majer, Kamal-Deen Sulemana, Jeremy Doku, Arnaud Kalimuendo and Lorenz Assignon, to replace Desire Doue, Amine Gouiri, Benjamin Bourigeaud, Martin Terrier and Hamari Traore.

There were bookings for Nuno Tavares, Leonardo Balerdi and Luis Suarez from Marseille. For Rennes, Hamari Traore, Desire Doue, Amine Gouiri and Kamal-Deen Sulemana saw yellow.

Next up, Marseille are away to Angers SCO, whilst Rennes will travel to face RC Strasburg.
