Olympique de Marseille defeated Nantes 2-1 on Saturday at the Orange Velodrome. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Marseille wanted to continue adding points following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Brest in their previous game. Nantes, on the other hand, were unable to beat Lille in a 1-1 draw. As it stands, Marseille are in 2nd place, with 7 points from 3 matches, while Nantes sit in 13th, with 2 points from 3.

After an uneventful first half, The Phocaeans piled on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Chancel Mbemba at the 70 minute mark. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from Ludovic Blas at the 78 minute mark brought The Yellow House level. Marseille in turn, then responded, at 82 minutes increasing their lead with an effort from Nicolas Pallois and saw the match end 2-1.

Substitutions for Marseille included Luis Suarez, Sead Kolasinac, Cengiz Under, Dimitri Payet and Duje Caleta-Car for Gerson, Leonardo Balerdi, Alexis Sanchez, Matteo Guendouzi and Cengiz Under, repectively. Nantes brought on Mostafa Mohamed, Dennis Appiah, Marcus Coco and Lohann Doucet, to replace Evann Guessand, Fabio, Andrei and Pedro Chirivella.

The referee booked six players. Valentin Rongier, Samuel Gigot, Pau Lopez and Jordan Veretout from Marseille, who saw yellow cards and Samuel Gigot (2 yellow cards), sent off with a red, as well as for Nantes Evann Guessand also seeing yellows.
