Marseille 3 – Nantes 2: Visitors leave the Orange Velodrome empty handed

Nantes fell to an away defeat at the hands of Olympique de Marseille at the Orange Velodrome on Wednesday. Marseille were looking to get back their winning ways after losing their last game 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain. Nantes were unable to beat Angers SCO in a 1-1 draw. As it stands, Marseille and Nantes currently occupy 2nd and 10th spots in the table, with 62 points and 47 points respectively after 33 matches.

The Yellow House started the game well, with Andrei giving Nantes the lead in the 26th minute. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Dimitri Payet managed to equalize and take the sides off at the 39 minute mark at 1-1. However, The Yellow House just before half-time found the back of the net following a Marcus Coco goal, to take a 1-2 lead into half time.

Marseille staged a comeback in the second half, thanks to Dimitri Payet finding the net again at the 55 minute mark. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Amine Harit in the 75th minute to make it 3-2.

For Marseille, Arkadiusz Milik, Valentin Rongier, Pape Alassane Gueye and Sead Kolasinac, came on for Cedric Bakambu, Pol Lirola, Luan Peres and Amine Harit. Nantes brought on Fabio, Osman Bukari, Kalifa Coulibaly and Quentin Merlin, to replace Ludovic Blas, Moses Simon, Nicolas Pallois and Willem Geubbels.

The referee booked Luan Peres and Arkadiusz Milik from Marseille. Nantes had the worst of it though, with Ludovic Blas, Marcus Coco, Fabio and Dennis Appiah seeing yellow, and Marcus Coco (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Marseille will play away against Reims, while Nantes will face Bordeaux at home.
