Marseille 2 – Montpellier 0: The Phocaeans beat La Paillade at the Orange Velodrome

On Sunday, Montpellier suffer an away defeat to Olympique de Marseille at the Orange Velodrome. Marseille were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Saint-Étienne away (4-2), the other to Nice at home (2-1). Montpellier, on the other hand, lost 2-1 in the last match they played against Brest. As the table looks today, Marseille are in 2nd place on the table and has 59 points while Montpellier sit in 11th with 41 points after 31 matches.

The Phocaeans dominated the first half, thanks to a goal from Bamba Dieng at the 9 minute mark. Marseille then scored once more and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Cengiz Under, 19 minutes in, which saw the first half end 2-0. The second 45 minutes ended with little further action at either end and goalless.

For Marseille, Luis Henrique, Dimitri Payet, Sead Kolasinac, Pol Lirola and Salim Ben Seghir, came on for Bamba Dieng, Cengiz Under, Pape Alassane Gueye, Valentin Rongier and Amine Harit. Montpellier brought on Valere Germain, Remy Cabella, Beni Makouana, Junior Sambia and Dimitry Bertaud, to replace Florent Mollet, Sepe Elye Wahi, Jordan Ferri, Arnaud Souquet and Stephy Mavididi.

Marseille will next travel to Paris Saint-Germain, while Montpellier will face Reims at home.
