Marseille 1-0 Clermont: Les Phoceans win third in a row

Clermont Foot fell to an away defeat at the hands of Olympique de Marseille at the Orange Velodrome on Wednesday. Marseille were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Nice away (3-0), the other to Nantes at home (2-1), while Cleermont had lost their previous match against FC Lorient. Marseille and Cleermont are 3rd, (13 points) and 12th, (6 points), spots respectively, after 5 matches.

After an uneventful first half, whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Marseille who started the second half strongly, with an early goal from Pape Alassane Gueye in the 49th minute, seing the match finish 1-0.

Substitutions for Marseille included Leonardo Balerdi, Jordan Veretout, Cengiz Under, Gerson and Souleymane Toure for Samuel Gigot, Valentin Rongier, Dimitri Payet, Pape Alassane Gueye and Jonathan Clauss, respectively. Cleermont brought on Grejohn Kyei, Saif-Eddine Khaoui, Jim Allevinah, Jodel Dossou, Brandon Baiye and Souleymane Cisse, to replace Komnen Andric, Muhammed-Cham Saracevic, Elbasan Rashani, Jeremie Bela, Johan Gastien and Florent Ogier.

There were bookings for Valentin Rongier and Eric Bailly from Marseille. For Cleermont, Komnen Andric and Alidu Seidu saw yellow.

Marseille will play away against Auxerre, while Cleermont will face Tolouse FC at home.
