Lille eased past Montpellier in a 3-1 victory on Sunday at the Stade de la Mosson. Montpellier were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the AC Ajaccio at home (2-0), the other to Brest away (7-0) whilst Lille had lost their previous match against Nice. Montpellier are currently 5th with 9 points from 6 matches, while Lille sit in 8th, with 7 points from 6.

La Paillade started the first half well, when Sepe Elye Wahi gave them the lead, at 20 minutes. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Jonathan David equalised for Les Dogues just before half-time to see out the first half 1-1.

Lille continued to apply pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Angel Gomes found the net, at 57 minutes. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a second effort from Jonathan David just before the final whistle to give a final score of 3-1.

Substitutions for Montpellier included Enzo Tchato, Faitout Maouassa, Arnaud Souquet, Khalil Fayad and Beni Makouana for Leo Leroy, Arnaud Nordin, Mamadou Sakho, Jordan Ferri and Joris Chotard, respectively. Lille brought on Adam Ounas and Andre Gomes for Edon Zhegrova and Remy Cabella.

The referee booked Tiago Djalo, Adam Ounas, Andre Gomes and Jonathan David for Lille and Valere Germain saw the red card, for Montpellier.

Next up, Montpellier are away to Angers SCO, whilst Lille will travel to face Olympique de Marseille.
