Lyon 2 – Rennes 4: Visitors deliver victory against The Kids

Rennes defeat Lyon 4-2 on Sunday at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais. Both Lyon and Rennes arrived on the back of wins. Lyon were looking to pick up points after winning last match whilst Rennes were coming from consecutive wins against Angers SCO and Montpellier. After today’s result, Lyon and Rennes sit 10th, (41 points) and 3rd, (49 points), in the table respectively, after 28 matches.
Rennes dominated the first half, with Benjamin Bourigeaud giving The Rennais the lead, 11 minutes in. The momentum was now with Rennes, who then scored again through a goal from Baptiste Santamaria in the 13th minute to establish a 2-0. However they weren’t finished yet and Lovro Majer made it 3-0 just before half-time. The score at half time was 0-3.
The Rennais started the second half with renewed vigour, thanks to an early goal from Martin Terrier in the 49th minute. However, The Kids weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Hamari Traore at the 59 minute mark. However they weren’t finished yet and Moussa Dembele made it 4-2 at the 82 minute mark with a final score of 4-2.
For Lyon, Malo Gusto, Tino Kadewere, Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Damien Da Silva and Houssem Aouar, came on for Leo Dubois, Thiago Mendes, Karl Toko Ekambi, Tanguy Ndombele and Lucas Paqueta. Rennes brought on Jeremy Doku, Flavien Tait, Birger Meling and Sehrou Guirassy for Martin Terrier, Lovro Majer, Adrien Truffert and Gaetan Laborde.
There were bookings for Thiago Mendes and Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon. For Rennes, Adrien Truffert, Jeremy Doku and Alfred Gomis saw yellow.
Lyon will next play Reims away, with Rennes facing FC Metz at home.
