Metz 3 – Lyon 2: The Maroons deliver decisive win at the Stade Saint Symphorien

On Sunday, Lyon suffer an away defeat to FC Metz at the Stade Saint Symphorien. Metz arrived with the intention of increasing their league score after a 2-2 draw against Montpellier whilst Lyon were coming from consecutive wins against Olympique de Marseille and Montpellier. As the table looks today, Metz are in 19th place, with 28 points from 36 matches, while Lyon sit in 7th, with 55 points from 36.

It was an impressive opening from Metz, with Vincent Pajot giving The Maroons the lead at the 26 minute mark. The momentum was now with Metz, who then scored again through a goal from Didier Lamkel Ze, 40 minutes in to establish a 2-0. However, The Kids pull-back just before half-time, with a goal from Moussa Dembele, to take a 2-1 lead into half time.

Lyon took the initiative in the second half, thanks to Moussa Dembele finding the net again, 84 minutes in. Metz in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with an effort from Farid Boulaya, leaving the final score at 3-2.

For Metz, Pape Ndiaga Yade, Kevin N`Doram, Dylan Bronn, Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik and Farid Boulaya, came on for Thomas Delaine, Pape Matar Sarr, Lenny Lacroix, William Mikelbrencis and Vincent Pajot. Lyon brought on Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Tanguy Ndombele, Leo Dubois and Romain Faivre, to replace Lucas Paqueta, Jerome Boateng, Malo Gusto and Houssem Aouar.

The referee booked Sikou Niakate, Boubacar Traore and Nicolas De Preville from Metz. Lyon had the worst of it though, with Tanguy Ndombele and Leo Dubois seeing yellow, and Thiago Mendes then sent off with a red.

Lyon and Metz will next play at home to Nantes and Angers SCO respectively.
