Cleermont 2 – Montpellier 1: La Paillade unable to avoid away defeat

Clermont Foot snatched all three points from Montpellier in a 2-1 victory on Sunday, at Stade Gabriel Montpied. Cleermont arrived at the game looking pick up points, following a previous defeat to Brest. Montpellier secured a point against FC Metz in their previous match. After today’s result, Cleermont are in 16th place, with 36 points from 36 matches, while Montpellier sit in 13th, with 43 points from 36.

Cleermont started strongly in the first half, thanks to an early goal from Elbasan Rashani in the 4th minute. However, their lead was short lived, as Joris Chotard equalised for La Paillade, 32 minutes in, which saw the first half end 1-1.

Cleermont continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Mohamed Bayo at the 69 minute mark. When the final wisthle blew, the result was 2-1 to Cleermont.

For Cleermont, Jim Allevinah, Lucas Da Cunha, Saif-Eddine Khaoui, Oriol Busquets and Grejohn Kyei, came on for Elbasan Rashani, Jodel Dossou, Salis Abdul Samed, Johan Gastien and Mohamed Bayo. Montpellier replaced Thuler, Sacha Delaye, Nicholas Gioacchini, Beni Makouana and Yanis Guermouche with Maxime Esteve, Leo Leroy, Arnaud Souquet, Stephy Mavididi and Valere Germain.

There were bookings for Salis Abdul Samed and Johan Gastien from Cleermont. For Montpellier, Florent Mollet, Arnaud Souquet, Joris Chotard and Leo Leroy saw yellow.

Cleermont will next travel to RC Strasburg, while Montpellier will face Paris Saint-Germain at home.
