Brest 1 – Marseille 4: Home loss for The Pirates at hands of The Phocaeans

Brest fell to a home defeat at the hands of Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Francis-Le Blé on Sunday. Brest were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning last match. Marseille were beaten 1-0 in the previous match against AS Mónaco. After today’s result, Brest are in 13th place, with 35 points from 28 matches, while Marseille sit in 2nd, with 50 points from 28.

Marseille found the net first, with an early goal from Gerson in the 3rd minute. The score at half time was 0-1.

The Phocaeans continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Arkadiusz Milik finding the net after 63 minutes. The Phocaeans looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Amine Harit in the 71st minute to establish a 3-0. However, The Pirates weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Irvin Cardona, 90 minutes in. In the end though, Marseille secured the points emphatically, with a goal from Cengiz Under just before the final whistle. The game ended with a 4-1 victory for Marseille.

For Brest, Lucien Agoume, Romain Del Castillo, Steve Mounie and Irvin Cardona, came on for Hugo Magnetti, Youcef Belaili, Jeremy Le Douaron and Martin Satriano. Marseille brought on Luan Peres, Cedric Bakambu, Duje Caleta-Car, Cengiz Under and Valentin Rongier, to replace Sead Kolasinac, Arkadiusz Milik, Leonardo Balerdi, Amine Harit and Matteo Guendouzi.

There were bookings for Martin Satriano from Brest, and Matteo Guendouzi, William Saliba, Pape Alassane Gueye and Luan Peres, for Marseille.

Brest will next travel to Angers SCO, while Marseille will face Nice at home.
