Monaco 4 – Brest 2: The Monégasques triumph at home against The Pirates

AS Mónaco eased past Brest in a 4-2 victory on Saturday at the Stade Louis II. Monaco were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches against Lille away and Angers SCO at home, by 2-1 and 2-0 respectively while Brest were beaten 1-0 in the previous match against RC Strasburg. After today’s result, Monaco are in 2nd place, with 68 points from 37 matches, while Brest sit in 11th, with 48 points from 37.
The first half of the game started well for The Pirates, thanks to Jean-Kevin Duverne finding the net at the 10 minute mark. Brest looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Youcef Belaili at the 23 minute mark to establish a 2-0. Monaco in turn, then responded just before half-time increasing their lead with an effort from Wissam Ben Yedder, finishing the first half 1-2.
Monaco started the second half with an intensified spirit, with Wissam Ben Yedder finding the net again, 51 minutes in. The momentum was now with The Monégasques, who then scored again through a hat trick effort from Wissam Ben Yedder in the 54th minute to establish a 3-2. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Kevin Volland, 70 minutes in with a final score of 4-2.
For Monaco, Ismail Jakobs, Gelson Martins, Jean Lucas and Myron Boadu, came on for Vanderson, Aleksandr Golovin, Kevin Volland and Wissam Ben Yedder. Brest brought on Jeremy Le Douaron, Haris Belkebla, Steve Mounie, Rafiki Said and Brendan Chardonnet, to replace Irvin Cardona, Hugo Magnetti, Martin Satriano, Youcef Belaili and Christophe Herelle.
There were bookings for Aleksandr Golovin and Kevin Volland from Monaco. For Brest, Christophe Herelle saw yellow.
Monaco will play their next game away against RC Lens, while Brest will face Bordeaux at home.
