Sassuolo 4 – Spezia 1: Home fans stunned, as Neroverdi ship 4

Spezia Calcio fell to an away defeat at the hands of Sassuolo at the MAPEI Stadium on Friday. Sassuolo arrived with the intention of increasing their league score after a 2-2 draw against Salernitana. Spezia had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 2-0 victory against Cagliari. Following today’s result, Sassuolo are in 10th place on the table and has 43 points while Spezia sit in 15th with 29 points after 30 matches.
Sassuolo found the net first, with Domenico Berardi opening the rout at the 17 minute mark. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Daniele Verde equalised for Spezia, 36 minutes in. The first half ended 1-1.
Sassuolo started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with an early 2nd effort from Domenico Berardi in the 48th minute. Neroverdi looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Kaan Ayhan at the 78 minute mark to establish a 3-1. However they weren’t finished yet and Gianluca Scamacca made it 4-1 in the 81st minute with a final score of 4-1.
For Sassuolo, Gianluca Scamacca, Abdou Harroui, Francesco Magnanelli, Brian Oddei and Emil Konradsen Ceide, came on for Gregoire Defrel, Matheus Henrique, Davide Frattesi, Hamed Junior Traoré and Domenico Berardi. Spezia brought on Kevin Agudelo and Rey Manaj, to replace Daniele Verde and Emmanuel Gyasi.
There were bookings for Matheus Henrique and Domenico Berardi from Sassuolo, and Viktor Kovalenko, Giulio Maggiore and Martin Erlic, for Spezia.
Sassuolo will next travel to Lazio, while Spezia will face Venezia at home.
