Salernitana 2 – Fiorentina 1: granate triumph over The Purple One at Stadio Arechi

Salernitana beat Fiorentina with a thumping 2-1 victory on Sunday at Stadio Arechi. Both teams arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Salernitana were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning last match while Fiorentina were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Venezia and Napoli. As it stands, Salernitana and Fiorentina currently occupy 18th and 7th spots in the table, with 25 points and 56 points respectively after 34 matches.

granate started the game well, thanks to Milan Djuric finding the net at the 9 minute mark, finalising the first half 1-0.

The Purple One took the lead in the second half, with a goal from Riccardo Saponara in the 64th minute. Salernitana in turn, then responded, 79 minutes in increasing their lead with an effort from Federico Bonazzoli and seeing the game end 2-1.

For Salernitana, Franck Ribery, Grigoris Kastanos, Federico Bonazzoli and Matteo Ruggeri, came on for Simone Verdi, Lassana Coulibaly, Milan Djuric and Nadir Zortea. Fiorentina brought on Riccardo Saponara, Krzysztof Piatek, Alvaro Odriozola, Aleksa Terzic and Jose Callejon, to replace Jonathan Ikone, Arthur Cabral, Lorenzo Venuti, Cristiano Biraghi and Youssef Maleh.

There were bookings for Norbert Gyomber from Salernitana, and Nikola Milenkovic, for Fiorentina.

Fiorentina and Salernitana will next play away to AC Milan and Atalanta respectively.
