Napoli banked all three points against the Empoli in a 2-0 victory on Tuesday, at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Both Napoli and Empoli arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Napoli were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Atalanta away (2-1), the other to Sassuolo at home (4-0). Empoli were able to continue their winning streak after a 1-0 win against Sassuolo in their last match. Napoli are currently 1st with 38 points from 14 matches, while Empoli sit in 14th, with 14 points from 14.

After an uneventful first half, Napoli applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Hirving Lozano, at 69 minutes. However they weren’t finished yet and Piotr Zielinski made it 2-0 just before the full time to give a final score of 2-0.

Substitutions for Napoli included Hirving Lozano, Eljif Elmas, Piotr Zielinski, Giovanni Simeone and Diego Demme for Giacomo Raspadori, Matteo Politano, Tanguy Ndombele, Victor Osimhen and Stanislav Lobotka, respectively. Empoli replaced Martin Satriano, Nicolas Haas, Filippo Bandinelli, Tommaso Baldanzi and Razvan Marin for Sam Lammers, Jean Akpa, Alberto Grassi, Liam Henderson and Emmanuel Ekong.

The referee booked Leo Ostigard from Napoli. Empoli had the worst of it though, with Filippo Bandinelli, Martin Satriano, Sebastiano Luperto, Fabiano Parisi and Liam Henderson seeing yellow, and Sebastiano Luperto (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.
