Fiorentina 3-4 Inter: Nerazzurri win seven-goal thriller with late strike

Internazionale banked all three points against the Fiorentina in a 4-3 victory on Saturday, at Stadio Artemio Franchi. Fiorentina were on the hunt for more points after a 1-1 draw against Lecce. Inter were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Salernitana and Sassuolo. Fiorentina and Inter are 13th, (10 points) and 7th, (21 points), spots respectively, after 11 matches.

Nerazzurri started the first half well, with an early goal from Nicolo Barella in the 2nd minute. Inter looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Lautaro Martinez, 15 minutes in to establish a 2-0. The Purple One in turn, then responded, 33 minutes in, grabbing the lead with an effort from Arthur Cabral, ending the first half 2-1.

Fiorentina took the lead in the second half, when Jonathan Ikone found the net, 60 minutes in. However, each side looked hungry to win and Inter then found the back of the net, at 73 minutes thanks to Lautaro Martinez, taking the score to 3-2. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from Luka Jovic, at 90 minutes brought The Purple One level. In the end though, Nerazzurri took the victory via a Henrikh Mkhitaryan goal just before the full time. The match ended with a 4-3 victory for the visitors.

Substitutions for Fiorentina included Jonathan Ikone, Luka Jovic, Lorenzo Venuti, Aleksa Terzic and Antonin Barak for Nicolas Gonzalez, Alfred Duncan, Dodo, Cristiano Biraghi and Sofyan Amrabat, respectively. Inter brought on Edin Dzeko, Robin Gosens, Denzel Dumfries and Raoul Bellanova, to replace Joaquin Correa, Federico Dimarco, Matteo Darmian and Lautaro Martinez.

There were bookings for Giacomo Bonaventura, Dodo, Sofyan Amrabat and Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina. For Inter, Francesco Acerbi, Nicolo Barella and Denzel Dumfries saw yellow.

Fiorentina will play their next fixture away against Spezia Calcio, while Inter will face Sampdoria at home.
