Empoli 1-0 Sassuolo: Azzurri celebrate narrow victory at home

Empoli beat Sassuolo with a 1-0 victory on Saturday at Carlo Castellani. Both Empoli and Sassuolo came from defeats in their previous league games. Empoli arrived at the match looking to pick up more points after losing their last match 2-0 to Atalanta whilst Sassuolo were beaten 4-0 in their previous match against Napoli. Empoli and Sassuolo are 12th, (14 points) and 11th, (15 points), in the league respectively, after 13 matches.

After a goalless first half, Empoli piled on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Tommaso Baldanzi on the 64 minute mark, seing the match finish 1-0.

Substitutions for Empoli included Sam Lammers, Jean Akpa, Nedim Bajrami, Nicolo Cambiaghi and Nicolas Haas for Mattia Destro, Jacopo Fazzini, Tommaso Baldanzi, Martin Satriano and Filippo Bandinelli, respectively. Sassuolo brought on Giorgos Kyriakopoulos, Abdou Harroui, Emil Konradsen Ceide and Agustin Alvarez Martinez, to replace Hamed Junior Traoré, Kristian Thorstvedt, Rogerio and Luca D’Andrea.

The referee booked Razvan Marin and Jacopo Fazzini for Empoli.

Empoli will next play Napoli away, with Sassuolo facing Roma at home.
