Empoli 1 – Verona 1: Azzurri denied all 3 points at Carlo Castellani

Empoli were held to 1-1 draw by Verona down on Sunday at Carlo Castellani. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Empoli were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last game 1-0 to AC Milan. Verona lost 2-1 in the last match they played against Napoli. As things stand, Empoli and Verona currently occupy 12th and 10th spots in the league, with 33 points and 42 points respectively after 30 matches.

Empoli scored first, thanks to a goal from Federico Di Francesco at the 26 minute mark to take them into the break 1-0 up.

Verona took the initiative in the second half, with Matteo Cancellieri finding the net at the 72 minute mark. The game ended wih a 1-1 draw.

For Empoli, Andrea La Mantia, Leo Stulac, Lorenzo Tonelli, Liam Henderson and Liberato Cacace, came on for Nedim Bajrami, Federico Di Francesco, Filippo Bandinelli, Szymon Zurkowski and Fabiano Parisi. Verona brought on Matteo Cancellieri and Filippo Terracciano, to replace Diego Coppola and Daniel Bessa.

There were bookings for Simone Romagnoli and Fabiano Parisi from Empoli. For Verona, Nicolo Casale, Giovanni Simeone and Matteo Cancellieri saw yellow.

Empoli will next travel to Fiorentina, while Verona will face Genoa at home.
