Atalanta 1-2 Napoli: Gli Azzurri pass a big away test against Atalanta

Atalanta fell to a home defeat at the hands of Napoli at the Gewiss Stadium on Saturday. Both teams arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Atalanta had been hopeful of continuing their good run after winning last match. Napoli were coming from consecutive wins against Sassuolo and Roma. Atalanta are now in 2nd place, with 27 points from 13 matches, while Napoli sit in 1st, with 35 points from 13.

The Goddess dominated the first half, when Ademola Lookman gave them the lead, at 19 minutes. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Victor Osimhen producing an equaliser on the 23 minute mark, bringing Gli Azzurri level. However they weren’t finished yet and Eljif Elmas made it 2-1 in the 35th minute, concluding the first half 2-1. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the match ended 2-1.

Substitutions for Atalanta included Duvan Zapata, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Jeremie Boga, Marten De Roon and Brandon Soppy for Rasmus Hojlund, Mario Pasalic, Ademola Lookman, Teun Koopmeiners and Hans Hateboer, respectively. Napoli brought on Tanguy Ndombele, Matteo Politano, Giovanni Simeone, Alessio Zerbin and Gianluca Gaetano for Hirving Lozano, Piotr Zielinski, Victor Osimhen, Eljif Elmas and Andre Zambo Anguissa.

There were bookings for Merih Demiral, Rasmus Hojlund, Duvan Zapata and Rafael Toloi from Atalanta. For Napoli, Min-jae Kim saw yellow.

Atalanta will next play Lecce away, with Napoli facing Empoli at home.
