Atalanta 0-1 Empoli: Azzurri claim a narrow road win at Atalanta

Empoli defeat Atalanta 1-0 on Saturday at the Gewiss Stadium. Atalanta were hoping to get something from this game, following a previous defeat to AC Milan while Empoli are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. Following the final whistle at the end of the last game of the Serie A season, Atalanta and Empoli sit 8th (59 points) and 14th (41 points) in the table respectively, after a total of 38 matches.

After a goalless first half, Empoli continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Leo Stulac giving Azzurri the lead at the 79 minute mark. The game ended with a 1-0 win for Empoli.

For Atalanta, Matteo Pessina, Giorgio Scalvini, Joakim Maehle, Merih Demiral and Josip Ilicic, came on for Hans Hateboer, Teun Koopmeiners, Davide Zappacosta, Mario Pasalic and Remo Freuler. Empoli brought on Nedim Bajrami, Leo Stulac, Federico Di Francesco, Tommaso Baldanzi and Fabiano Parisi, to replace Andrea La Mantia, Filippo Bandinelli, Liam Henderson, Patrick Cutrone and Liberato Cacace.

There were bookings for Remo Freuler from Atalanta. For Empoli, Petar Stojanovic saw yellow.
