São Paulo 2-2 Fluminense: Honours even in exciting goal-fest at Morumbi

São Paulo were held to 2-2 draw by Fluminense down on Sunday at Morumbí. São Paulo wanted to improve their league standing after a scoreless draw against Atl. Mineiro in their previous match whilst Fluminense were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Ceará and Corinthians. After today’s result, São Paulo are in 8th place in the table and have 23 points while Fluminense sit in 6th with 27 points after 17 matches.

Fluminense started strongly in the first half, when Andre found the net at the 25 minute mark. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Luciano managed to equalize and take the sides off at the 34 minute mark at 1-1. However they weren’t finished yet and Patrick made it 2-1 just before halftime, to take a 2-1 lead into half time.

Fluminense took the initiative in the second half, with a goal from Manoel in the 64th minute. The final result, São Paulo 2, Fluminense 2.

Substitutions for São Paulo included Welington, Thiago, Luizao, Jonathan Calleri and Igor Vinicius for Patryck, Jandrei, Leo Pele, Luciano and Eder, repectively. Fluminense brought on Felipe Melo, Nathan, Nonato, Willian and Alexandre Jesus, to replace Luccas Claro, Matheus Martinelli, Matheus Martins, Ganso and Jhon Arias.

There were bookings for Diego, Luciano, Patrick and Jonathan Calleri from São Paulo. For Fluminense, Andre and Caio Paulista saw yellow.

Fluminense and São Paulo will next play away to Goiás EC and Internacional respectively.
