Botafogo defeated São Paulo 1-0 on Sunday at Morumbí. Both São Paulo and Botafogo arrived on the back of wins. São Paulo were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two games against America Mineiro away and Avai at home, by 2-1 and 4-0 respectively. Botafogo, meanwhile, were able to continue their winning streak after a 2-1 win against Avai in their last match. São Paulo are now in 11th place, with 40 points from 31 matches, while Botafogo sit in 8th, with 43 points from 31.

After an uneventful first half, Botafogo continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, with a goal from Soares just before the final whistle, leaving the final score at 1-0.

Substitutions for São Paulo included Igor Vinicius, Reinaldo, Marcos Guilherme, Eder and Giuliano Galoppo for Alisson, Welington, Patryck, Luciano and Rodrigo Nestor, respectively. Botafogo brought on Kanu, Danilo, Gabriel Appelt and Philipe Sampaio, to replace Rafael, Lucas Fernandes, Tche Tche and Joao Victor.

The referee booked Leo Pele, Pablo Maia and Rafinha from São Paulo and Leo Pele went off with a red card, while Botafogo’s Kanu and Victor Cuesta also received a yellow.

São Paulo will play their next fixture away against Palmeiras, while Botafogo will face Internacional at home.
