Santos 2-0 Botafogo: Santos in control at Urbano Caldeira with clean-sheet victory

On Thursday, Botafogo suffer an away defeat to Santos FC at Urbano Caldeira. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Santos arrived at the match looking pick up points, following a previous defeat to Avai. Botafogo had lost their previous match against Atl. Mineiro. As it stands, Santos are in 9th place in the table and have 25 points while Botafogo sit in 12th with 21 points after 18 matches.

Santos started the first half well, when Leo Baptistao gave Santos the lead at the 33 minute mark, concluding the first half 1-0.

Santos continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Marcos Leonardo, 77 minutes in, leaving the final score at 2-0.

Substitutions for Santos included Carlos Sanchez, Weslley Pinto Batista, Lucas Henrique Barbosa and Guilherme Camacho for Bruno Felipe De Oliveira, Leo Baptistao, Angelo and Vinicius Zanocelo, repectively. Botafogo brought on Lucas Piazon, Carlos Eduardo, Erison Danilo de Souza and Gustavo Sauer, to replace Vinicius Lopes, Luis Felipe Oyama, Lucas Fernandes and Jefferson Ruan Pereira dos Santos.

There were bookings for Vinicius Zanocelo and Luiz Felipe from Santos. For Botafogo, Fernando Marcal and Renzo Saravia saw yellow.

Santos will next travel to Fortaleza EC, while Botafogo will face Athletico Paranaense at home.
