Palmeiras 1-0 Santos: Leaders Santos slip up after conceding late goal

Santos FC on away loss to Palmeiras at Allianz Parque on Monday. Palmeiras were looking to pick up points after winning last match. Santos had lost their previous match against Ceará. Palmeiras and Santos are 1st, (57 points) and 11th, (34 points), in the league respectively, after 27 matches.

After an uneventful first half, Palmeiras piled on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Miguel Merentiel gave them the lead, 77 minutes in, to hand a welcome victory to the hosts.

Substitutions for Palmeiras included Miguel Merentiel, Mayke, Gabriel Menino, Eduard Atuesta and Luan Garcia for Bruno Tabata, Marcos Rocha, Gustavo Scarpa, Rony and Dudu, respectively. Santos brought on Carlos Sanchez, Angelo and Rwan, to replace Vinicius Zanocelo, Lucas Braga and Lucas Henrique Barbosa.

The referee booked Ze Rafael, Gabriel Menino and Gustavo Gomez from Palmeiras and Danilo went off with a red card, while Santos’ Vinicius Zanocelo, Marcos Leonardo, Yeferson Soteldo and Guilherme Camacho also received a yellow.

Palmeiras will next travel to Atl. Mineiro, while Santos will face Athletico Paranaense at home.
