Palmeiras 4 – Botafogo 0: Bad day for visitors at Allianz Parque

Palmeiras suffered an away loss to Palmeiras on Friday at Allianz Parque. Palmeiras were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two games against Coritiba away and Botafogo at home, by 2-0 and 4-0 respectively. Botafogo lost 1-0 in the last match they played against Avaí. Following today’s result, Palmeiras are in 1st place, with 22 points from 10 matches, while Botafogo sit in 16th, with 12 points from 10.

Palmeiras started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Rony opened the rout at the 11 minute mark. Palmeiras looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Gustavo Scarpa in the 18th minute to establish a 2-0. Palmeiras then netted again and increased their advantage thanks to a second effort from Rony, 33 minutes in. The score at half time was 3-0.

Palmeiras continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Wesley just before the final whistle, leaving the final score at 4-0.

Substitutions for Palmeiras included Rafael Navarro, Fabinho, Wesley, Breno and Eduard Atuesta for Gabriel Veron, Danilo, Rony, Dudu and Gustavo Scarpa, repectively. Botafogo brought on Romildo, Kayque and Chay Oliveira, to replace Luis Felipe Oyama, Tche Tche and Lucas Fernandes.

There were bookings for Joaquin Piquerez from Palmeiras. For Botafogo, Renzo Saravia saw yellow.

Botafogo and Palmeiras will next play at home to São Paulo and Atlético Goianense respectively.
