Palmeiras 2-1 America: Visitors to Allianz Parque leave with nothing

Palmeiras’ 2-1 win over America Mineiro on Thursday, was hard fought at Allianz Parque. Palmeiras arrived with the intention of improving their league position following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Cuiaba in their previous game. America were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Red Bull Bragantino and Internacional. Palmeiras are now in 1st place on the table and have 81 points while America sit in 7th with 52 points after 37 matches.

America started the first half well, when Martin Benitez gave them the lead, at 15 minutes. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Gustavo Scarpa equalised for Palmeiras just before half-time. The score at half time remained 1-1.

Palmeiras once more applied the pressure in the second half and were rewarded, with a goal from Murilo Cerqueira on the 81 minute mark, seing the match finish 2-1.

Substitutions for Palmeiras included Bruno Tabata, Mayke, Gabriel Menino, Eduard Atuesta and Breno for Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa, Marcos Rocha, Gustavo Scarpa, Ze Rafael and Dudu, respectively. America brought on Matheusinho, Patric, Gonzalo Mastriani, Danilo Avelar and Wellington Paulista for Felipe Azevedo, Raul Caceres, Henrique Almeida, Marlon Matheus and Martin Benitez.

There were bookings for Marcos Rocha, Ze Rafael, Mayke and Gustavo Gomez from Palmeiras. For America, Martin Benitez and Juninho saw yellow.

Palmeiras will next travel to Internacional, while America will face Atlético Goianense at home.
